Q: These are challenging times for everybody and the news cycle is spinning hard – how do you make time and space for yourself?

A: Itu2019s about being disciplined. Iu2019m rarely awake past 2230 at night. I really enjoy getting to bed early and then getting out running before 0600. I actually get my running kit ready the night before to save time in the morning. It sounds weird, but thatu2019s one less excuse when the alarm goes off. I always make time for some form of exercise every day, no matter where I am. Itu2019s important for everyone, for your body and your head.

Q: You’re a keen runner, do you take a break from alcohol when you have an important race coming up?

A: Yes, always. I try to avoid any alcoholic drinks for at least seven days before a marathon. This year Iu2019ve actively been trying to have more alcohol-free days. I did u2018Dry Januaryu2019 and felt fantastic at the end of it. Unfortunately, COVID has resulted in loads of marathons getting cancelled. But Iu2019ll be back in 2021! Staying away from booze just gives your body a chance. And itu2019s funny because when youu2019re running a marathon there are always people in the crowd holding signs saying u2018beer lateru2019 and thatu2019s the LAST thing you fancy at the finish line. Or maybe thatu2019s just me!

Q: What’s your go-to drink when you’re on a health-kick?

A: Robinsonu2019s Barley Lemon. Iu2019ve no idea why, but I can drink endless litres of water when itu2019s mixed with that. I sometimes drink beetroot juice too. The top runners all swear by it, and I just copy them.

Q: Tell us a little about your ambassadorial work and any takeaways we should bear in mind…

A: When my mother got sick with breast cancer it kind of woke something up inside me and made me realise how fortunate we are to have our health. We grumble over small, silly things and Iu2019m as guilty of that as anyone. So I started running a few marathons. Iu2019ve helped raise six figures now for various good causes just by getting out running. I enjoy the fitness and people are so incredibly generous. At work, Iu2019ve been able to organise pub quizzes in aid of The Eve Appeal, a brilliant charity that carries out world-class research into gynaecological cancers. Iu2019ll never forget the night my hero Sir AP McCoy came along with his wife Chanelle to support our event. There are some amazing people out there who do so much for others. All I would say to people is if you have your health, then you can take the time to make a difference. Iu2019ll keep going until I canu2019t! Thatu2019s the plan anyway.
